The Meditation Class

I attended a meditation(禪坐) class in this afternoon, and all students are myclassmates in class 22 except one girl. The teacher, Andy, has beento India for a year and learned meditation, but he was not a really
meditation teacher. There are many methods in meditation and he chooses “Vipassana”. (內觀).
Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. It was rediscovered by Gotama Buddha more than 2500 years ago. Vipassana is a way of self-transformation through self-observation. It focuses on the deep interconnection between mind and body, which can be experienced directly by disciplined attention to the physical sensations that form the life of the body, and that continuously interconnect and condition the life of the mind. It is this observation-based, self-exploratory journey to the common root of mind and body that dissolves mental impurity, resulting in a balanced mind full of love and compassion. You can experience the universal truths of impermanence(無常).
After his introduction, we tried to meditate for 20 minutes. It’s difficult to concentrate on breath because the mind was wondering. I thought about dinner, homework, sounds of fan, and so on. Moreover, I felt uncomfortable result from keeping my back and neck straight. To prevent myself from falling sleeping was also a hard task, but it was still a special experience.
